Hi,
I have several of these tubes for sale. Original box, NOS and tested. 20 euros each plus shipping. Email me for shipping costs. Some info posted in Tubeworld."ECC31=CV1285=6N7G Mullard 1950's ECC31 SONIC FEEDBACK: -------------------- One might think you would praise the Mullard ECC31 to justify the high price you ask. But that's not true, they sound so extremely good the price IS justified (because you cannot get this sound cheaper): My just for fun stereo amp is a Philco type 45 driven by Ken-Rad 6N7GT's. I was very pleased with the sound, so I wanted to know how the praised Mullard ECC31/CV1285 may sound....unbelievable! Lots of realistic space, rhythm, great tonal balance with very truthful sound of the instruments, natural colours...this tube gives POWER and authority to the 45 flew power triode! Stunning! Going back to the Ken-Rad's are several steps backwards: Air is lost, less colours, less strong, narrow, the music doesn't make so much fun anymore than before, the musicians seem to play funny uninspirated. The ECC31=CV1285 may be a little underestimated due to the common cathode, but this is a big mistake. Running in parallel is not "political correct", but it sounds absolutely outstanding! I run (1) ECC31 tube in parallel per side. The setup: Philco 45 globe, Valvo G2504 rectifier, couple caps are old Sicatrop's, tantalum resistors, Black Gate FK at the cathodes, Bosch MP caps in the power supply. Output transformer is a MegaHertz (Italy). It's a simple concept with excellent parts. This amp wins enormous with the ECC31. I've never heard such a good single driver stage. Suddenly I don't miss my other, more sophisticated monoblocks, one pair is a 300B/2.5, driven by a 10+46 combo, interstage and MQ output transformer. The other pair is a Mazda PP3/250, driven by a Valvo Ba+10 combo with amorphous core OPT. The fourth amp project will be a 10 amp, I think I should start with the ECC31 driver. My masterwork is the preamp, using ECC40, E80CC, CV181, 10 with OPT. You may note I use lots of 10's and this for a good reason: It sounds incredible and blews away a lot of other tubes. The preamp and driver tubes are heated with batteries (they sound better) with the exception of the 46, a radical, but sonical superior solution." Maybe this guy reads the forum and is interested, he sells them for 300 dollars the pair. |
