Default Metaxas Opulence III preamp, fried, as is.

An unscrupulous seller sold me this thing on Audiogon as working. It was DOA. He refused to take it back and refund, Paypal told me that they can not do anything about it (take note!), so I hope to recover some money. Cosmetically main unit is very good, faceplate is nearly perfect, power supply has some sctratches. It powers on, but it is dead throughout. PLEASE DO NOT PLUG IT IN YOUR SYSTEM, IT PUTS LOTS OF DC ON OUTPUT, EVEN ON TAPE MONITOR! It will destroy your system! This repair is way beyond my knowledge, so if you know what you are doing, you have a chance to own one of the very best solid state preamps out there. For detailed description of problems and some measurements and pictures pls e-mail directly.

Did you fund the purchase with a credit card? If so, you can do a chargeback to recover your funds. Call your CC company for details on how to proceed. Nothing so crummy as a deadbeat seller!

Default Charge-back

Thanks for advice

My bank has reversed the charges, and put the funds back into my account, BUT - Paypal is harassing me and threatening legal action and collection agency, and they can do it.

If you plan to fight PayPal for the chargeback amount, I'd hold onto the preamp. If they let you keep the cash, it is only right to send them the dead preamp in return. On the other hand, if you plan to relent and reverse the chargeback so you don't have to deal with the folks at PayPal, by all means, recover what you can.

I would do some serious reading into exactly what PayPal can do legally. I had to do a chargeback on a non-eBay item that was never shipped, and they did NOT fight me for it. That was an item that was clearly never shipped, however; yours is a different case, but I wouldn't give up yet,. PayPal may be bluffing. Either way, good luck!

Default Yes

Hi.

I sold it to a friend of mine, who had somebody supposedly fix it. But I still have not seen it nor heard it. I closed the door on Metaxas, as I have not seen a working unit in a long time, and this experience only added to the flame.

Good luck!

M
