I'd like to try making an OPT-less guitar amplifier, and using a massive array of 3" 40 ohm drivers seems like the easiest way to do it. Anyone got a carton?

There are some high impedance Philips drivers.

Or maybe even a Freischwinger system:

First, the shipping on those is a deal-killer. Second, what ARE those? I don't speak German, so I'm at a bit of a loss. |

Freischwingers consist of a permanent magnet and an excitation coil standing 90° to eachother, the moving part is the core of the coil or an induction loop, depending on the manufacturer. Because of the compact-wound coil the have poor cooling and low power handling. They went into extinction when permanent magnets became strong enough for dynamic speakers. The Telefunken in my link has a diaphragm similar to a Linaeum.
