Default HiVi 10.8 - ideas ?

Hi, came across a hiVi10.8 woofer cheap, was thinking of either a simple sealed, or a crazy Pass-like El Pipe-O.
Anybody had success with this driver in subs?
Thanks

Greets!

A MLTL variant tuned to 18 Hz appears viable:

L = 74.75"

CSA = 165.8"^2 - recommend 16.375" x 10.125"

zdriver = anywhere from the end to 26.687" away

zport = 4" dia. x 10" long near/at the other end

minimal stuffing or lining

Cheers,
How vital is that cross section area?
12 Inch diameter sonotube would fit most requirements, but a bit low on CSA - only ~ 113 in^2.

Greets!

All else being equal it will begin rolling off at ~30 Hz to a ~22 Hz Fb and have more 'ripple' above ~100 Hz, but that's not an issue with a sub. Vent mach will be higher, so may require some damping if any synth/movie special effects have significant output near/at Fb. Of course these are idealized half space alignments, so the room and where the sub's located in it will alter them to a greater or lesser extent.

FWIW, the pipe needs to be ~109.4" long to reclaim the lost Vb, though it now has enough pipe action to damp the entire gain BW ~1 dB pushing the vent's harmonics down into the sub's upper passband, creating a ~3 dB broadband dip in the response above ~60 Hz.

Bottom line, if you don't have a tall ceiling like NP, then to get the most gain BW out of this driver in a cardboard tube will require stepping up to an 18" one since I don't believe there are any intermediate sizes.

OK, I do have a 14 ft ceiling in listening room, but will take the advice.
Thanks!
