hi palesha,
some of the sellers in lajpat rai market say they have the y53 grade.but others are saying no one is importing y35 only y20 or y25. so what to do .
ravs
We know that very well.
Y 25 is not for high quality speakers.
I think we must enquire at Chennai.
Some people import there also.

Did you give this a second thought ?

1. If you are making this for fun .... go for it !

2. If you are making it to save money ......well the component parts "might" be cheaper , but are you sure they are as good as what they use in "good" drivers ? Your expenses towards ..time you spend on it and anything related with the project like driving down to pick up parts etc. are hidden costs and can add up to a lot. Maybe more than the parts itself.
3. Do you know what specifications it should have ( Fs, TS parameters etc.) . Or is it just a blind shot and you will use it with whatever parameters it lands up with ?
4. Did you check what drivers are available locally and if it will suit your application. Nowadays some drivers appear to be sold at decent prices.
5. If you plan to make all drivers except the tweeter (?) you really have your hands full.
6. It is unlikely that you can get two drivers to perform identically as many parameters are not quite under your control.

It's a very challenging task and make sure you have plenty of free time available to devote to this project.
Making a driver is very easy . Making a reliable and very good driver is not !
Wish you all the best with this project. You are going to learn a LOT !
Cheers.

Default save money

dear ashok,
making your own drivers is fun, but the main reason is to save money ,i cannot afford importing driver, wher the cost of shipping is much higher than the cost of driver itself.
other than that where can i purchase good quality drivers in mumbai

You need to walk through Lamington Road and look at every shop with speakers displayed in the window.
You will find Peerless India speakers and Bolton, Philips, Dainty , Luxco, Iwai and a host of smaller brands AND many imported brands .
Then you can get Vifa drivers from www.corrson.com in Bangalore.

Make an estimate of how much the parts will cost for your speaker . You might find that the speaker off the shelf is not too expensive after all !

Vifa ( 6 to 7 inch ) woofers are priced from about 1,600/- to 2,800/- . Chinese drivers are much cheaper . There are many Chinese drivers ( also Blaupunkt, Pioneer ,JBL and many others) in Mumbai for the car audio market . You could use those drivers too. You need to walk around and find out.
Check the PA market too. They have a whole range of drivers at good prices.
Cheers.

From what I've heard "corrson" is closing operation of sale of drivers and is going into manufacture of amps and preamps.

" so will you explain the procedure, technicalaties for making 8" bass drivers,

Hi

well i would love to help u ...but I think it would be out of scope of this reply. Too much of typing even to start with. So i would suggest u

ask me particular questions and i would try my best to reply to those.

But dear before u ask.......please keep in mind " if u r planning to make just 2 woofers or for that matter a few pairs....i would

suggest u buy them ". U would need a lot of hardware and software investments in order to make a woofer to get the TS specs that

u originally plan. Its not just about buying parts and putting them together. U would need specific parts which u can't buy is small

numbers like spiders, coils, motor etc etc......
The other way is to buy few parts that are available locally and play around with those, just to learn .... what effects what.....lot of

investment though......

rgds
Sumit
