Hi all, can someone explain why the Linkwitz Transform doesn't use a lowpass filter? There is no mention on Rod Elliott's Project to use a crossover.
I'm just curious before I repair mine.I used a lowpass filter in-between mixer and L. Transform. Anybody else use it this way? Cheers mikee55

A closed box speaker behaves as a 2nd order HP filter at low frequencies.
You might think of the Linkwitz Transform as a "thing" that first makes the FR flat and then makes a new 2nd order HP filter at (almost) any frequency and Q. A LP filter (+Linkwitz Transform) can sometimes be a good idea to avoid breaking the woofer because of high excursion but maybe it is better to adjust the Linkwitz Transform for safe operation. D |
