Default acoustic coupler...

this design is I believe by JBL after the fashion of the Jensen Transflex but 1/4 wave. also see the patent by Arnold I Klayman US # 5, 177, 329. Both these designs are essentially what is today Known as Tom Danley's TAP Horn.

Do you see that the total TL lenght of the Transflex is 1/4 lambda but Klayman's total leght of the line is 1/2 lambda?!

So, the Transflex is essentialy a lambda/4 line with the open end at the same position as the closed one. And Klayman design could be seen as a pair of coupled lambda/4 lines or as a lambda/2 line excited by a driver on the pressure nodes.

In this case the Transflex is a relatively "large" bandwidth device as compared to Klayman's "uni-tone". How could be tempered these conflicting theories which give us the same construction layout but 2:1 dimensional ratio?!

Sorry, I re-read the Klayman patent carefuly and it is conform whith Jensen's Transflex. So, not the Klayman is suspicious but JBL design. There, that lambda/4 cote should be a lambda/8.

I simulated a very simple TL 3 dB at 25 Hz that in most cases must be equalised if room gain is high and at an input power between 200-300 W a HP 12 dB/octave filter at 20 Hz should be included with the sub amplifier.

Note the slight improvement of group delay when using the defectors marked (b) and if the length of the enclosure is increased with + 10 inches, f 3 dB reaches 20 Hz.
