Some of us need subwoofers, but don't need a gaping hole in our wallets. (And plate amps are'nt cheap!)

So, here are a few possiblities:

1. Qkits FK671 48w subwoofer amplifier.
$18.99
http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/fk671

It's got big TO3 transistors, appears to include a heatsink, hass a built-in adjustable low-pass filter, and the same company that makes it I believe also makes the "schoolies" LM1875-based amplifier kit, which is supposed to be not bad.

And it's under 20$!

2. Qkits FK666 100w amplifier kit.
32$/1, 58$/2.
http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/FK666

It's 100 watts, and not too expensive. Honestly, I don't know if it's any good or not. Still not as good a value as the K8040 or 671, though.

3. Velleman K8060 100w Epitaxial Darlington amplifier
$23
http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/K8060

It's not supposed to sound very good. But, honestly, does it need to?

OP

Most of those kits are either missing a part or two, or they're a bit underpowered in my estimation. I've bookmarked a particular merchant on ebay that carries a lot of liquidation items, including this 150 watt infinity amp for around $40 shipped. While it may be more than you intended to spend but it's a complete unit with nothing left to buy (like transformers, power cords etc etc).

I find qkits (velleman really) to be O.K.
I bought their car amp, and found it lacking in grunt.
Other kits have been better.

Check out apexjr.com.
I think it may be the same fleabay seller?

The guy who runs ApexJr is an awesome guy - but the price on eBay is lower than on his website. That said, if it IS him selling through e-Bay, one can be assured of a good transaction.
