side firing sub

i'm about to build an mtm with a side firing sub(sealed).it's a 12 inch.i want to keep the box skinny.at the present size the woofer will have only have 4.5 " of space behind the magnate.is this enough room? or does space behind the woofer matter in a sealed box?

That's plenty of clearance behind the magnet, if it's a pole vented sub you really only need the same clearance as the diameter of the vent.

Hi,
I can't tell from your brief, but the woofer must be in a separate chamber from any other unsealed drivers.
