Default DVC wiring questions

Hi all,

Please bear with me on this, this question is jumping into new territory for me.

I was wondering about tuning a DVC driver by using the second coil as the tuning coil.

How does this work?

Let' say I want to raise Qts from .35 to say 1.0.

Do I place X valued resister across the second coil to raise the total Qes to the point where the Qes/Qms relationship makes the drivers Qts 1.0?

Sorry, by searching a bit more I found some more info but still need a bit of a shove down the thought path.

In particular, Dayton SD270-8-8.
Specs are only displayed for coils wired in parallel. Qes is .43, Qms 3.20, Qts .38.

Would the max Qts I could get be .76?

When using a single coil, you can modify Qts from the value with parallel coils (with damping coil shorted) to about double that value (with damping coil open).

Search for RDO and/or DVC and you will get plenty of answers. You did uncheck the "Have you searched" question, right?

Ron,

Oh yeah, my first post was 'check' and post.
Then I searched, hence the second post.

So 'about double' Qts is 'about correct' on this.
I'll continue reading both RDO and DVC searches...

The 92.7 SPL is for both coils in parallel too I bet. So for one coil driven I should expect about 89.7 SPL. Still doable for me as I will be driving a pair of them for an amp load of 4ohms and 92.7 SPL.

I've also read that power capacity is reduced by about 1/3 and that's OK too.

Thanks,

Jim

Cal,

You're not suposed to be here!!

Was tinkering with Xbaffle and was shocked at the projected response of the RS225's.

Just doing the worst thing possible..........thinking. I need to stay at a Holiday Inn for a night.

Talk to you soon.

If you want to "jam" a woofer (make it fit some desired spec or alignment) you can raise Q with added mass or series resistance.

BTW, sensitivity goes down 6dB for the series or single coil connection.

For RDO:
