Default Tang band w6-1139sc problem?

Hi guys! i have built a sub cabinet with one of these installed. I am using a plate amp to power it. When I construted the box, I built it to winisd specs for a .75 sealed unit. The problem I have is that although the woofer is at full xmax almost, it is almost as if you cant hear it at all. It gets muddy and just does not have good output. Any suggestions?

Hi Jason,

I have the same woofers matched with 8" drones, powered with plate amps and it's just fine for what I ask of them. I have two in a 100 sq ft room.

Keep in mind, it's a very small cone for the frame size and a very inefficient woofer overall. They work great for a set of bedroom speakers as I have it but it's a real stretch to think this could be a woofer for your main system.

All I can suggest is to stick it in a corner.

well let me be more clear. They are made into my main speaker cabs. I have two. One in each cab with its own amp. Should I even try to port it. On winisd it says I need a 63 inch port. I was thinking 1 port 2X8, Could the box be too big at .75? I am going to post some pics tonight.

Jason,

I have done a similar thing. The woofer, drone and plate amp on the back of the cabinet. The midbass, midrange and tweeter on the front (two cabinets in one) The volume is about the same as yours. I have no problem in the small room.

It may just be that you are asking too much from them.

It isn't just a phase issue or you're listening in a dead spot is it? Sorry, have to ask.

To be honest, i had them sitting in the middle of the room. Dumb question, but what is a drone?

Hi,

what TS parameters did you use to model the driver ?
.75 cuft looks too large for sealed to me.
Also too big for Vas = 14.4L, Qt = 0.29.

Seems you to need to reflex them.

I used the parameters that were already in the program. I agree it needs to be ported, but the port would end up being so long. Would someone mind trying to calculate a box for me?. The inside measurements are: 6.5 inces wide X 8 inches deep X 26 inches tall. Any suggestions?

It is the non-active cone used in a passive radiator system. Most people just call them PR's

with that much cabinet length, bottom port it and use some ABS elbows to make it snake around the cabinet a bit, then if you still need to deduct any more airspace after factoring in all that new port volume, put sandbags in the bottom! reduces your airspace, increases stability and floor coupling!

or use an 8" passive radior for wach woofer, a pair of them could driver two 8" PR or a 12"
