Unhappy oz audio in a 67 firebird

i have recently installed a pair of ppi pc122 in my trunk and they sound like crap. i have now ordered a set of oz audio ME12.2.
i have a 67 firebird, ppi ax606.2 amp. and oz's on the way, to put into a ported box.
now that you know that, what is the best way to install the box? facing the rear of the car, up against the rear seat, facing the cab. or maybe in the middle of the trunk facing the cab. if i need a diferent box, just tell me. you are the experts and you have my ear. i have already learnt my lesson by buying the ppi subs already.

That's a tiny trunk to put such large speakers in. If it where me, I would go with a sealed box, remove the rear seat and build the baffle where the seat was. But your not me. I have a 68 Firebird, I plan a good system for it, but I'm not looking at the sound levels you are wanting to produce. Two 8" subs on the back dash will fill the cabin with more than enough bass for the music I listen to.

Ah, what motor have ya got in there.

Mine was an Pontiac 350 with auto, I've swapped to a warmed up small block 350 with an M21 and a 3.55 12 bolt rear. I have a beefed Pontiac 400 with 670 heads for it but decided to leave it for the 66 GTO (Tempest cloned). Now the clone is going to get some bass, but I haven't decide the hows and whys, lots of measurements to take.

i have a 400 with the #16 heads. i believe they are almost identical to the 670's. i also have a 3:55 rear end but i have a 350 turbo trans, i was going to go with the 400,it is stronger, but it takes more hp. to turn it.
anyways, i need the rear seat for when my daughter is with me. any other suggestions? will dilling thhe port holes though the rear deck lid be a good idea or not?

I guess the real question is what are you trying to get out of the speaker? If you are looking for a loud overbearing bass drone then slipping them in the trunk is just what you'll end up with. The cabin gain of two 12's in the trunk is going to be, well, hard to control.
These cars did not have thick road noise padding like so many newer cars so it's going to shake, rattle and roll. You might get away with leaving the two spots for speakers on the rear deck open and see if it will help lower the trunk gain. Adding some heavy padding in aroung the trunk may also help control the speakers.

cabin gain will be the same for a 5" or a pair of 18s, as long as we dont get some bandpass action going on, then you have to deal with "port"(holes) velocity and such which modifies your FR.

if you want some loud(for home audio, for car audio its not that special) and low bass thats CLEAN, try a pair of ascendant audio assassin 12" drivers, theyve been getting nothing but praise, and theyre 90 shipped (each) to boot!.

i HIGHLY reccomend you remove your rear speakers and re upholster the deck with a "breatheable" fabric, so prettymuch anything exept vynils and stuff, but regular auto carpeting is fine.
