Box Parameters:Manufacturer's vs. People

Hi guys,

I've been posting about the Soundsplinter RL- 15 Dual 2 Ohm powered by the EP2500. On the Soundsplinter website they advise to put the RLp 15 in vented enclosures ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 to 5.8 cubic feet. I have gotten advice from others here to build a box to 260 liters, or about 9.39 cubic feet. this is over 4 times the size of the smaller enclosure reccomended by the manufacturer. Who is right here? I'm guessing the larger box will allow for much lower bass, but will this cause the driver to extend too much? Ive got the driver modeled in WinISD in a 260 liter box tuned to 20Hz and it looks much better than the smaller reccomended boxes as it has lots of low end while the smaller ones have almost nothing until 30Hz. Also, I went into a pro audio shop today and was told by one of the employees that I can't use this driver because its strictly a car audio sub. I hope hes just very stupid because even if I buy the Dual 2 Ohm version, as long as I select 4 ohms on the EP2500, I should be fine right?

dont listen to that pa guy, ive been told by countless uninformed individuals that home subs will meltin a car or vice versa. its all bs AFAIK(and i know pretty far in that realm(but not in grammar)).

ANYWAY, if my memory serves me well, the ep2500 is 2400w@4 ohm monobridged, and 1200wpc@2ohm. So a dual 2 ohm sub would work, but id be scared of bumping the gain knob and metling it one day. You could prolly EASILY go with a EP1500.

if you already got the ep2500, wire the sub with coils in series to one channel, thatll be 600 watts, which should be plenty.

so yeah a dual 2 ohm setup should be no problem. if the amp is somewhere where it wont be acessed and tweaked by anyone, feel free to just run each coil to each channel of the amp.
