I'll tell you what i use for music listening...

foobar2000 - Waves Q3 EQ - BBE Sonic Maximiser 2.0 - Waves C1 compressor (just in case...) - Kernel Streaming

The EQ is only used for a midrange dip and some treble boost.

The key element is the BBE Sonic Maximiser. Get it, try it out and share your impressions

Default Sonic maximiser?

The one that boosts the upper harmonics of the fundamental of bass?Yes,I've used something similar, dont see the point in boosting what I can hear.
Clever stuff though.cheers.mikee55

Default Just plugged it into Wavelab

Yuk!Instant distortion, had to back gain right off, noticed some sort of compression going on with quiet passages.Whilst quiet, noticed digital noise.Every setting bar master setting increased signal beyond clipping. On the master setting, noticed mids and highs disappearing.
Acquired it,on the net,no questions, test track was Jean M.Jarre Calypso pt 1.Dave Brubeck Quartet and Altern8.Soundcard Sound Blaster 24 bit Live 7:1.Panasonic RP-HT202 headphones

Its not for me.Didn't give me increased lo frequencies either.I can hear why you need a compressor (just in case...) and you have eq in the mix for mids and treble?Try PhatPro,hear if you like extra lo end it gives

Cheers Mikee55

Any plug-in will give you instant distortion if not properly set. And i need some EQ 'cause i momentarily have crappy speakers.

And i also have the Master knob on the BBE down to -6dB, to give some headroom for the Lo Contour setting.

Default Hello again

Yeah, fair comment.I installed it,and went straight for the master preset assuming the others were for instruments in a multitrack setup. Is Foobar playing compressed music ie mp3's etc?I don't have much time to play at the mo,maybe my qiuck session wasn't long enough for a worthy evaluation. Will get back to you on that one.Off to bed now, goodnight

Thanks for replying.Mikee55

Yes, it's still playing mp3's.. but only until i can get the music i want in some lossless format I almost can't stand hearing cymbals at 128kbps anymore

PS: i have an SB Live 24-bit too

Default 128kbps!Know what ya mean

Hi khron,I can see why you need it,128kbps really sucks, most I've listened too aren't converted well.I find it best to reduce the gain and then convert to 128kbps.But then I don't ever convert to mp3,prefering wma for my portable. But then we're stuck when we search for a hard to find tune.Where do you search?I'm naughty,I use a P2P called emule.Perhaps I shouldn't have wrote that, but sometimes its the best way to find somthing you can't find anywhere else.As for the Music authorities, you charge too much, for crap recordings(Pop/Chart)that its not worth buying. Not when you live in this country anyway.Fuel is now £1.00 average per litre, and thats mostly tax.(I'm ranting, sorry). So yeah,I file share, and have to hope for the best recordings.I'm going to try this plugin again, this time with a 128kbps recording to see how it goes. How much improvement can you get?I mostly upsample to try and improve a compressed recording. If I download a FLAC file of music,I convert to 24bit 96khz and burn a DVD-A disk.I get suprising results.Done this with CDs too.Pink Floyd the wall was upsampled from the 44.1 to 88.2 from 16 bit to 24 and both disks then fit on one DVD.Quality exceeds CD,and I use EAC in error mode to rip CD slowley to my HDD.Then Wavelab 5 does a Batch process of the tracks applying the Upsample and I burn from there to a DVD.I have a Panasonic DVD-A player to listen on.I'm temporarily listening through an amplifier of 7watts from a pair of Sony PC speakers which drive my Goodmans Magnum K2 speakers.Ha ha 7 watts into 12"woofers,sounds bloody good though.I'm working on a Valve buffered gain clone at the mo.
Sorry,its a bit long.
Cheers Mikee55
