Is 100 watt amp big enough for this driver?

Hi guys, a few weeks ago I posted about my ipod speaker project, and it is coming along very nicely. I just order this dayton subwoofer , and 100 watt amp , but I am considering whether or not I should return it for the 250 watt amp . Is 100 watts enough for just 1 speaker?

Also, I have been looking for a 4 channel amp for my 2 tweeters, and 2 midrange, can I use the 40$ car amps I have been seeing?

Model it in WinISD Pro and see. As a rough guess I would say it would be OK for music but maybe not for HT. It depends a lot on your box design and how loud you want it.

Also, If I crossover my sub at 140hz, does that mean I need to find a midbass that can go down to 140hz?

I could model it for you, what size of box do you want? Ported or sealed?

If you crossover at 140 Hz, yes your mains should go down to 140 Hz.

Usually it's recommended to crossover under 80 Hz unless you're using dual subwoofers under your mains speakers.

4.5 cubic feet sealed, .75 inch thick plywood+ styrofoam.

Also, Can anyone help me find some 5-6" midrange speakers that go to around 100Hz and cost under 10$?

Here's a graph of 4.5 cu.ft internal with 100W imput.

Room gain will improve the low end a bit, and also expect 3 dB more if against a wall and 3 dB more again if in a corner.

If I am interpreting the graph right, does that mean that it will produce around 110db output at around 80-90watts?

also, how is 4.5 cubic feet huge? The enclouser is 2x1.5x1.5

Another question, can I use this car amp to power these two speakers?
and how would I wire it to a standard power outlet?

You would need a step down transformer 10:1.
Cheaper to buy a 120V amp IMO.

Yes you would need a crossover and a tweeter.

If you don't want to build one, go with a pair of Creative Sound WR125S since your budget seems limited.

I dont know about long term...

But back in the day, you could use a battery charger to run a car amp."make sure it's not a quick charger". You really need to befriend E-bay, for your kind of budget.

You can find them for about thirty dollars new so a used one will be less than that. They use them for recharging trolling motor batteries. You just plug them in red to red black to black and your set. Just make sure its not a quick charger just a 12 volt battery charger. later
