RE XXX...Rebuild?
I boght a blown 18" RE XXX. I got the unit reconned and have since sold it. I asked Terry if he could send me the old cone, VC, surround assembly. After sitting in my room for a year or so I started messing with it. To my suprise all 4 coils now read good (1.4 ohms). I powered it up and held a magnet by the VC and all 4 coils work. You can see the part of the VC that over heated and there is no enamal coating left on the magnet wire in that spot but everything seems to work. The spiders are there but were cut off in a way that I don't think they can be used again. The cone and suurond seem fine though. I am now wonering if I should rebuild this thing. It would probably be still very expensive to get my hands on a 18" RE XXX basket and motor though. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks
