Unhappy Best use for 2xJBL GT122's?

Hiya Guys

This is my first post here, and I'm completely clueless when it comes to DIY home audio .... soooo ..... please excuse me if some of these questions are very basic, or have been answered elsewhere. I've spent a fair amount of time reading the various threads before posting this, but may have missed an applicable reply.

First off, I'll get my gear listed:

2 x JBL GT122 12" subs

1 x Sony G99AV Home Stereo

These items are some left overs from around 9 years ago; the subs coming from my first car stereo, and the Sony being my old hi-fi setup.

When the subs were removed from my old car I placed them in individual boxes with ports (boxes that may or may not be appropriate, I have no idea ), and wired them up to the Sony system to see what would happen. I did this by connecting them to the front left and right connections, sharing the output with the Sony fornt left and right speakers. The cabling used by both the subs and the Sony speakers is the two wire type, one wire plain, one striped . Now I realise this may be a complete "no no", but they actually sounded pretty good back then, when I had no idea what good audio sounds like. The Sony system also has an rca style sub output on it, but as already stated, this is all a bit beyond me, so I've never tried wiring up one of the subs to use that connection.

Now, this brings me to my current DIY project. My partner and I plan on building a homemade beatmania IIDX cabinet. For those of you who have no idea what beatmania is, check it out here. And this an example of a beatmaniaarcade cabinet.

Anyways, I figured I'd pull out the old Sony sytem and the subs and incorporate them into the cabinet that we are building. However, I'd like to make best use of the subs, and I'm sure connecting them to the sony sytem as I had done previously is not a good idea.

So I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on how best to utilise this gear in a cabinet.

Can I still use the old Sony system and front speakers somehow?

Should I try to get a sub amp for the two subs?

If so, can I incorporate the sub amp into the sony sytem somehow?

The boxes the subs are in are 52 cms high, with the base's 4 sides measuring 40cm, 40cm, 30cm, 20cm. So the panel the port and sub are in is angled. Are these boxes an OK size?

I know this a real mish mash of questions and info, but any help would be great.

Cheers,
Shud.
