USPS = US Postal Service which is the same as our Australia Post and Canada Post. They are treated as No1 on the general rules (post 2). I've had several deliveries via Canada Post and no hassles.
UPS = United Parcel Service and a carrier like Fedex and to be kept away from in these circumstances. They are treated as No2 on the general rules. So don't confuse USPS with UPS. Which Shiva you looking at? If it's an 8 ohm then the VCs have to be wired in parallel, if it's 4 ohm then the VCs have to be wired in series.... to suit amp impedance. Hopefully, your amp will be shipped Thursday. BTW... what do you need and amp for if you don't have a driver (J/K)

Thankyou for clearing that up!! SO all i do is tell them to post it... geez not that hard.
Well its an almost brand new original Shiva Mark I dual 8 ohm.... I heard they were pretty good, and actually had more excursion than the later models. I just want to build a nice sounding sub, so after reading lots of posts I think its worth importing a Shiva if i can find it. But I don't want to be stung for excessive postage so I'm trying to sort that all out. Imagine: Your brother purchases some expensive stuff on ebay for the first time, sends it through the post and it gets held up at customs.... you have to waste petrol driving all the way to the airport, you have to pay $50 just to be allowed to fill a form, look up the duty rate on the goods (quickly before they shut), calculate the duty and GST, and end up forking out another $230 on GST after paying ebay shipping just to receive the item. Now you know why I like to know exactly how much I'll be out of pocket before I do anything. PS yeah I b.s a little, i dont have the box ready yet, but the idea is there, i just need to scab some offcut mdf from a local kitchen fitter |

Damo.... have you got those numbers right as A$400 for a 12" Shiva is mighty expensive and they retailed in Oz for around A$273 when you could get them?
If it's the one in Canada for US$119.99 then with shipping should work out about A$285 (a stab), which is still quite expensive for a used driver and remember these have foam surrounds which have a limited life span of around 10 years. If the driver is already a few years old.... work it out. I'd reassess and look at the other possibilities and don't only look at sealed.... keep the mind open on vented or passive radiator as there are other alternatives. I won't make any suggestions due to my commercial interests but I'm sure others have suggestions.

Yep thats the one, but seller said US$165 for express post, US$100 for regular and I'm impatient.
Agreed, that's wayy too expensive for a used driver. I don't really care if you have commercial interest I just need a decent driver and plans for a box to go with it. How much is a 12" PR bundled with say, one of the new peerless drivers. This could make up for the lower excursion of these drivers compared to Shiva yes? I know you have a solution rabbitz.... Can you throw in simple dimensions for the box too? I don't think I have access to a program to simulate a PR and a driver in the one box :P |

Oh, I'm not very smart today, there's already a post on this.... Using the Peerless XLS driver 830500 and a PR in a 35L box!
So a "moving mass of 425g in the slave" means you stick a dead weight onto the PR to tune the box config to the right resonant frequency? This is what they mean by tuning the box to 20Hz? Or PRs come in different weights? More dumb questions..... (btw the amp i ordered is PERFECT for this setup, with highpass at 17hz!!) |

Yes you stick weight on the PR to tune to the right frequency. Yes some PRs come in different weights, but most allow you to add some more.

Damo
I'd go for a box around 45 litres and download WinISD pro as it does passive radiators. I'll send you an email tonight with some info and prices.
