Default Aperiodic Sub Questions

Hi All,

I'm in the planning stages of what I hope will be a very musical sub for my 2005 Hyundai Elantra sedan. Options are limited for the box design because I need to keep as much trunk space as possible. I'd considered getting two Elemental Designs Eu700's for the rear 6x9 holes and running them infinite-baffle, but I found a deal I couldn't pass up this week on what looks to be a nearly perfect candidate driver for an aperiodic design.

Got a Cerwin-Vega Vega154 beast for $96 shipped. Specs look amazing:

Diameter: 15"
Sensitivity (1W @1m): 96 dB
Power Handling: 500 Wrms
Free-Air Resonance: fs 23 Hz
Total Q: Qts 0.359
Maximum Excursion: Xmax 1.60" (+- 0.80")

I'm planning on using a Soundstream MPQ-5XO Parametric EQ for crossover duties, MP3 player input, and for the proper response shaping at the sub's resonance frequency.

I've read various sites on how to tune the resistive vent with a multimeter.

I have over 10 years experience as a professional cabinetmaker so complex fabrication is not an issue.

Have an Alpine 3547 at 45x2 for the front stage, and a Linear Power 2202 at 220x1 for the sub. I'll be thrilled if it hits 120-125db in the bottom two octaves with cabin gain and the LP 2202, I'm used to 8" subs and I listen to jazz/acoustic, etc. Doubt I will bottom the Vega154 with 19.1mm of Xmax ONE WAY.

Don't want to do a lot of electrical system work in the Hyundai for a giant amp, just a 1/2 Farad cap or similar.

What I'm up in the air about is the type of aperiodic membrane to use and the surface area of it if I go with the rear-loaded design. Same as woofer cone area? Some people say half the cone area. Any actual theory/hard numbers on this? Are WaveMod mats still made? Any other hints/tips, anybody done this?

Thanks!

Brian
