Default sub tunning

Is it bad to tune your sub below the driver's fs?

What are the possible consequences?

Not at all!

In fact that's exactly how a bass reflex box gets its extension.

The main thing to watch is cone excursion below the tuning frequency. Use a good modelling program. I suggest WinISD which is free from Linearterm at http://www.linearteam.dk/

Actually a normally aligned vented box will never tune below Fs. Tuning below Fs can result in increased distortion, but with a high quality driver with linear (surround) travel this is not so much of an issue.

Tuning a subwoofer below its fs protects the sub from "unloading" at any frequency above the tuning point, but at the exspense of output.
