Default Potential subwoofer enclosure material

One of my friends works for the kitchen counter top business. He sells this solid acrylic product called "Meganite" www.meganite.com Appartently he claims that it could be used for speaker enclosures because of it's strength and acoustical properties. I checked it out and it's about 1/2" thick and incredibly strong and dense. Not to mention there's all kinds of colors. The only drawback is that it's pretty expensive at retail prices.

Despite the cost. Anyone think that this can be used for building subwoofer enclosures?

Almost anything will make a decent enclosure, braced properly or engineered for strength. If you can get a decent price on a color pattern you like, go for it.

This could be used for sure. Alot of people use normal acrylic to build subwoofer boxes. I doubt it will be better than wood, but I don't know.

Looks like the same kind of material Corian is... it has been used in speakers to good effect but is expensive.
