Default searching for GOOD spiders

hello,

i used the search but i did not found good links.

some time ago there was an woofer design thread and i got some info there but it is very hard to get more infos about spiders.

i am looking for overall diameter 6-8" and inner diameter from 2-3" deep roll design with around 5-7mm and width of 4-6mm each roll.

should be long throw and real polycotton or nomex types.

not these cheapies that make everything sound same or play only one frequency!! (you know what in mean!)

any links would be very helpful

THANX a lot.

means that most spiders are far away from what they should do.

the look might be ok but ,damping, linearity and xcursion capabilities or duration are BAD.

hi

could you specify the kneck diameter you like , i think you need it for professional audio or car subs

i can send u what u need easily as i have a lot lying around

u will have to bear the postage from calcutta

i have nomex , fabric , treated , and silicone doped ones

deep rolled heavy duty linear coencentric spiders with 5 to 7 mm rolls

if you need progressive or regressive it will take time as i have to yet make those - but can be made on a bulk order

it will take some time as i am abroad now will be getting back 3 rd week of this month

By damping do you mean mechanical lossiness (Rms) or springiness (Kms)? To increase linearity and excursion capability, you can use a larger spider with more rolls. About durability - most spiders fail from a loose joint of some kind, I believe. (I find it hard to believe a spider can rip)

I've seen a few subs with the spiders ripped, either right around the voice coil, or in a line from the center out, these were cheap chinese sourced units though...

Have you seen the new spider from adire that they have on parthenon? that looks pretty neat. I was thinking of experimenting with some DIY drivers myself and was thinking of making some spiders similar to those of the parthenon. For surrounds, I was thinking of making a mold and use hot glue as the actual material. Hot glue seems to be flexible enough, and easily shaped and molded. If I get something going with that I'll let you guys know how it turns out!

The spyder design on the audire extremis has some work left in it to get it right, yet. It is designed similar to a sub spyder, and has to ,well, be better designed and better implemented, iffi'n you knows what I means. Ie, one simple difference from the skannings, for example.. makes any observer aware the skanning is going t have less resonance issues and much, much lower failure rates.

I've got a dilemma. A serious one.

I can teach people how to make a better driver for me...but then..have them make it in a offshore (China) factory?

And then..the next time wround, ie, one year later, max..everyone else is using the same tricks? I mean, to have someone understand exactly what you are proposing, you ahve to explain the reasoning to them..so they 'get it'. When you do that, all proprietary understanding and prior effort in that direction tends to go out the window. The sad part, is many will copy a given desgin's components but won't even know why. And screw it up in the process. (Fine by me!)

Where's my advantage?

What would you do?
