Tuba refers to the design of the horn, which is very close to that of a real tuba, with a long small cross-section conical spiral terminating in a large flare at the end. Brass instrument designers discovered centuries ago how to get low notes, I've just applied the same concept to folded horns that get better bass than direct radiators without being larger to do it.
