NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE BACKGROUND HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS......

1. WHAT SHOULD I SET THE CROSSOVER FREQUENCY TO(40Hz-160Hz)?
2. WHAT SHOULD I SET MY PHASE CONTROL TO(0-180 DEGREES)?
3. WHAT SHOULD THE VOLUME SETING ON THE AMP BE SET FOR?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
THANKS,
SLICE

NOTE: I AM GOING TO BE POSTING PICTURES OF THE FINAL PROJECT IN A FEW DAYS....IN A NOTHER SUBJECT ENTRY....

1. Most DVD soundtracks etc are designed for 80Hz crossover

2. This will depend on the room .... play with it till it sounds right.

3. set it for a volume that does not clip under normal circumstances.

1.ya but what is PHASE CONTROL
2.and what does the crossover do?
3.and what frequencies does the sub put out when it is set to 80hz, does it put out every thing below 80hz or every thing above?

thanks

1. It changes how the waveform arrives @ your ears wither by way of a time delay or by changing the shape of the electrical signal .... the idea is, if it is out of phase @ the crossover point, alot of the sound @ and around the crossover point will be partially cancelled when the 2 sound waves (1 from the front speakers and 1 from the sub) meet @ your ears. You want to set it so that both sound waves have the same phase @ your listening position and this is a matter of listening till it sound the best.

2. The crossover determines which speaker/s play which frequencies and sends each part of the soundtrack to the right speaker/s.

3. The crossover for the sub is called a low pass filter so it sends everything below the set frequency to the sub. So, if the crossover is set @ 80Hz, the sub plays everything below 80Hz.

that's next to impossible to say because any piece of furniture you have in the room etc will affect it. Generally speaking you 2 waveforms of the same frequency will be in phase relative to each other when you are located @ some point that can be measured in x*wavelength from each of the 2 sources .... the x can be different for the 2 sources as long as both x's are whole integers. Wavelength is the length of the sound wave in question.
