Speaker factors affecting cabinet designs?

What factor determines the use of this or that particular type of speaker in various types of cabinets (like band pass,bass reflex,etc)?


Also,what is the effect of subwoofer speaker voice coil in various types of cabinets like bandpass,bass reflex,etc

Do the size of voice coil play an important role in the designing the cabinets?

The T/S parameters are an approximation of the behaviour of the motor and diaphragm when in an enclosure (actually it is about more than that, but for now the short explanation will do).

You need a speaker simulator like WinISD or BassBox, which will model the most appropriate enclosure size for a given woofer and alignment. Alignment is the nature of the bass rolloff below resonance.

You can download WinISD for free, it comes with a bunch of loudspeaker models which can get you started on the basics before you find the data for your given driver, create a new model for it and then give it to the simulator for a computation of the box.

Voice coil heating has a small effect on the low end response, and the program will allow you to model it for various VC temperature rise.

In general by looking at a few parameters of the driver you can tell what kind of a box might suit it, but the computation is essential to get the result working somewhat well. Since the T/S are only an approximation, the results are slightly inexact (also drivers have quite a wide variation form the average spec) but in general at the very low end the room and placement typically have a far more profound effect on bass response than the box itself.
