Some time ago I saw a design for a "Coffin" transmission line bass speaker utilising two Kef SP1022 B200 drivers. I haven't been able to locate it again, can anyone help please?
N.B. I am NOT talking about the B139 version - I know about that.
I would also be interested in any help with a design for a passive crossover supplying < 300 Hz to the B220s (LINK) and via two pairs of speaker binding posts outputting > 200 Hz to two smaller speakers (B110 & T27). The coffin would end up with four pairs of speaker binding posts - two in and two out.
Many thanks in advance.

Very many thanks, that was EXACTLY what I was thinking of.
Incredible external passive crossover!
Incredible external passive crossover!
What would you suggest then? The huge 15mH aircored coils are totally unnecessary.
What would you suggest would be a suitable design for a passive crossover supplying just low frequencies to the B200s and via two pairs of speaker binding posts the remaining middle and upper frequencies to two smaller speakers (B110 & T27). The coffin would end up with four pairs of speaker binding posts - two in and two out.
I notice that the Fried Model H design crosses over at just 100 Hz:
"These are all tied together with an external passive crossover claiming a 1st order network at 100 Hz between the B110 & the B200 (the actual XO map shows a 2nd order low-pass on the woofer)." (LINK)
Is Bud Fried's crossover ineffective then?Trying to do a passive XO at 100 Hz is not easy or typically very effective. Biamp.
What would be the advantage of Bi-Amping? How would that work and is it any sort of solution to my quest?
Incidentally, the links to Mike Barney's site (crossover & speakers) on your Model H page no longer work.
Things definitely got better when an H was modified for bi-amp.

Is there an easy way to convert this to 2 seperate standing enclosures or would that mean a total redesign?
(could split them, downfiring but need room for the mid and tweet too and dunno how downfiring alters stuff unless high enough of floor)
What is the response of this thing anyways?

Here's the link to my Fried Model H page:

The next version of this system consisted of the Model B satellite paired with the Model T woofer (using Dynaudio tweeters and Dalesford mid & woofer).
Model B info here:

and the Model T Sub:

If you're considering biamping, I'd suggest the Dahlquist crossover - passive (single cap only) on the tweeter, third order on the low pass.

Anyone pick up the minor layout "error" in the design?
Anyone notice the tedious "Fan dancers"?
Mike, VERY many thanks for a helpful, relevant, on-topic post. I will have a more detailed look at your links and will almost certainly get back to you with a few dumb questions - thanks 🙂

Hi All,
FYI:

Check the folding - the design seems to have no taper around the bend.

Hi Brian,
Yes, I've seen that too...

Thanks, I feel sure that the details you have posted should tell me something useful but I have no idea what. I'm guessing that they are based on the Fried crossover which cuts off at 100 Hz? Would you be willing to explain and enlighten me somewhat?Hi All,

Please 🙂
