Halfway through my sub build, I started second guessing my design worrying that I wouldn't be pleased with how low it went. So, now I have a 1.375 cubic foot (empty) box that I'm trying to match a driver to.
I was originally going with a Dayton 8" in a cube foot tuned to 35Hz, which gave me an F3 of about 35Hz and SPL around 104dB. I figured it would be ok for a first build, but then I got to thinking how annoyed I would be if I said "meh - that's good enough for a first build" and left some on the table.
So, if you had a 1.375 cubic foot box, what would you drop in it as a good all-around sub both on a budget and unlimited?

Maybe consider two drivers in push-push to minimize distortion,

What would you do with one cubic foot ?
Buy one cubic shoe !
That's just terrible.. (Laughing my @$$ off as I type.)
kcducttaper- Home or auto? Or???
Probably a pair of TB W6-1139 minisubs, with a pair of 10" PRs. Mount everything opposite each other, so you've got complete force cancellation.
Tune for ~35Hz and you should get something rather good sounding.
Alternatively, stuff a JBL GTO1214 in there and shove a rocket up it (or, a big amplifier + EQ, whichever).

To copy and paste from my post in your other thread a moment ago, check out the HST11 drivers!
HST11 11″ Subwoofer | Stereo Integrity
T/S parameters would seem to indicate ability to go into tiny sealed enclosures (0.4cuft?!) and still crank out the <20Hz bass!

Dang, that looks like a beast! I'm sure I'll have to do some different port work for that!
I've only really been looking at drivers from Parts-Express just because they seem to have a solid selection (most of the time). I'll definitely check out some SI drivers though.

Right. Max spl is limited by power and driver xmax. Yes, a reflex setup can give you a little more spl, at a cost of slower transient response. I have 4 boxes, not much bigger than your 1 cu ft, each with one of those Dayton drivers in. Large living room, and I've not even come close to max spl. Yes, I do turn it up.
Running 4 sealed Dayton HO's is ridiculous power! You're talking 2,400 rms just for the 10" drivers, which can easily trip a standard 15A breaker and possibly even a 20A.
I used to run a mobile disco off 225WRMS !
It was fine for small to medium sized venues.
Yeah, we dust by turning it up. I've an old Phase Linear 700 running the subs. In stereo.
Here's the livingroom: http://dp-design.com/evergreen/_wp_generated/wpeae0a359_0f.jpg

Hi kcducttaper,'
I do the other way around...Pick a good (Musical) Driver and try it in an appropriate Box, i.e. your suggested 1.375 cubic foot:

How about something like this:
6moons.com - industry features: RoadTour Serbia, Exit Raal
I vaguely remember there's a development thread here somewhere, somehow I can't find it.

What is your budget?
If low then perhaps:
Small (8 inch?) Subwoofer Recommendation
Or this, but I'd say that this one is tuned too low for an 8":
Digger8 Sub - diggity dig it all the way to 20Hz
But with your line of thinking I'd go for something with more output.
Budget, power? Plate amp in the box or external?
