At the time I did these (1981), I had listened to the three main horns like this, the Altec A4, JBL 4550, and RCA Ubangi. I had a dozen folded-horn woofers, so this was to be midbass only, 100hz~800hz.
The RCA sounded better overall than the others, but was crossed at 400hz to its very large HF section.
This set now resides in a community theater in Topeka, note the tweeter added in the HF horn mouth.
The JBL had a better throat for midrange.
I made a hybrid of the three, using the (then) new Altec MantaRay technology to control the dispersion.
While it was a fantastic midbass horn, it was deemed to be too big for portable use.
In the later versions in this vein I went to dual 12's in a narrower and taller form factor.These only go to 150hz, and can be used higher as well, 1200hz or so.
