Default Suwoofer Amplifier Auto-On adjustment

In general can the sensitivity of the auto-on function of subwoofer switching amplifiers be adjusted or is the sensitivity fixed by design?

It depends. If the circuit consists of an opamp that compares the input signal to a specified value (like this schematic), you almost have complete freedom of setting the threshold value by changing some resistors. If the circuit buffers the signal and then sends it through a diode to turn on a transistor, there is a minimum value for the threshold.
