Question Richard Allan CG15 bass driver- what to do? tapped horn? Decware Imperial SO?

Hi guys

I can get a Richard Allan CG15 bass driver, but I am not sure what application it will work in. Here are the parameters:

Fs: 22
Qms: 1.49
Qes: 0.16
Qts: 0.144
VAS: 9.2 cu.ft.
Cms (M/N): 3.48
Mms (gms): 126.5
Bl (Wb/M): 26.7

Would this work in a tapped horn or a Decware Imperial SO horn? It seems to have too low a Qts for reflex (Onken or Karlson maybe?). Any ideas?

Thanks,
Deon

Here are some pics of the actual unit (unfortunately only one is available as the other one has been stolen):

I am not sure. I will have to find out. Will it work in a tapped horn? I have not been able to master HornResp yet, so if someone could model these for me it would be appreciated. I would favor extension over sheer SPL, if possible.

Thanks,
Deon

Depends on the size. Two MOAKs would definitely been out of the question. One big TH might not be so bad. OTOH, if he doesn't like it, one TH is much easier to sell than a pair of giant MOAKs.

Well, when I use Prof. Leah's math, it dictates such a low 'M' factor that you might as well put in an unflared TL or tapped pipe variant tuned to ~15.55 Hz; otherwise a large BLH coupled to a matching impedance amp.

Hi GM

By unflared TL, do you mean just a straight-sided pipe? A pipe tuned to ~ 15.5Hz is about 5.5m long. I can get MDF boards that are 2.75m tall (and 1.84m wide). I can use those as a basis and make the speaker 2.75m tall. But what size must the internal cross-section of the pipe be (W x D)? Here are two possible ideas for such a beast:

In the upper pictures the TL is folded to the side. The TL on the left is shown with the driver mounted at approximately the 1/3rd point of the line and the other with the driver at the end of the TL. Which would you suggest is best? The next pic shows the TL folded behind the driver, not next to it.

My last and I guess most burning question is, what kind of response could I get from such a monster?

Thanks,
Deon

What is the measured distance across the center-line of the diaphragm between the middle peaked roll in the surround?

Also, need you to measure the driver's [Re] as me and bjorno are getting enough different complete specs from the same published ones to make me wonder if either are 'correct' enough and even then it wouldn't surprise me if the measured specs are so different as to render what we do mostly moot unless the cab is made obviously oversized to allow some tuning flexibility, so wondering what size constraints you have.

Really sucks having such a valuable driver stolen.
