I don't think that the distortion from the limiting action is bad at all. This is typically used for a subwoofer application. If my circuit has 1% distortion and the driver has 10% distortion at full excursion or when overdriven, and my circuit prevents that, what's the problem?

I think that many limiter implementations DO induce large amounts of distortion, e.g. 10% or more, or "chirping" or "clicking" sounds. But my approach should avoid those effects.
