Wool for stuffing lines

I bought some wool The Madisound Speaker Store for stuffing an OD_ML_TL.
It seems to be a random mess.
I have heard that it should be oriented in the direction of the tuned length.

Do I try to comb it straight, like long hair?
Should I wash it before using it?
Is there any moth proofing that I could use?
Or, do I just install a light screen in the port to keep moths out?
Any other recommendations?

Help out a noob,
Thanks,

Dave

I don't know what your wool looks like, but the wool I've used (sourced from a sheep farm) has:
1) been a jumble of fibres (and colours). That's the way it will look unless its been 'processed' in some fashion by craftsperson/mill.
2) been washed. Trust me, if it hadn't you wouldn't even wonder if it was clean.
3) never had a problem with moths. I don't know if the moth stories are fiction or real, but I've never had an issue. Though, perhaps, location is a factor. I live in the country, in a semi-arid region, and though we do have moths in summer, perhaps they're the wrong 'type' to munch on wool.
Hope that helps.

You are not going to card the wool. It is clean and ready to use.
I do not believe orientation has anything positive to do with it's performance, but density through the line is. I would put a screen over it to keep the mice out.

I only use wool in sealed boxes (and have shifted back to FG anyway) as I don't want to pump wool fibers into the room due to allergies. If I tried another TL, I would use their acousta-stuff.
