Failing subwoofer driver?

I'm a neophyte in the areas of woofers, tweeters, and speaker design. Listening to them? Lots! Understanding how they work, and how drivers work (or fail)? Not at all!

Is there any reason to think that this woofer may be failing? The discoloration of the surround is something that I haven't seen in my (limited) experience.

That photo is of one of the three 8-inch woofers in a Vandersteen 2W subwoofer. The other two do not have the same discoloration of the surrounds:

I realize that the photos are rather dark, but I couldn't get a good with-flash photo.

Any feedback is appreciated!

if they are neopreme surounds, they will all fail eventualy.
neopreme ages over time and turn in to dust.
if the surounds are rubber they wil last a verry long time.
looking at the pics you not need to worry for a while.
at some point it wil tear ,but you could glue new ones on.
try to keep it out of direct sunlight.
