Nice build! I love the finished exterior! You should try a TQWP (no flare TH) or a T-TQWT (negative flare TH). A T-TQWT allows you the smallest enclosure of the 3 TH's for a given frequency response. I'm running a Kicker 15" L7 in a 222L T-TQWT. It sounds AWESOME! The way it pressurizes a room is incredible compared to a BR.

Some problems...
a) Subwoofer enclosure suffered constant resonances and it moved on the floor. So I decided to remove those nice aluminium legs and added 5 pcs of very thick rubber mat pieces under it. Huge difference in the sound and no more movement. I have to think adding some inside also.

b) Plate amp gain ends up 3 o'clock position to keep up with mains. So basically I'm running out of gain. The input signals in both Left+Right RCA is too weak. I'm using speaker level to line level adapters there. My tube amp only has speaker outputs. It used to work with BK Elec XXLS400 and speakon wire quite ok. Perhaps stereo speaker level to mono line level adapter is what I need. I might have to test my subwoofer in another system to confirm that there is no problem with plate amp, wiring or driver.

c) My listening room yells for acoustic treatment and/or room-eq. I might buy anti-mode 8033 cinema.

Hi Veke76,

Thanks for keeping us updated on your experiments. Is adding a pre-amp out / main-amp in jumper to the back of your integrated amplifier a realistic possibility? That would get you to the correct level, and would make it easier to add an external circuit into the signal path, e.g.: filters, LR summing-amp....

Regards,

That might be possible...I should search this solution for Yaqin MC-10L from tube section.

We'll the speakers are in balance in 3 o'clock gain and are able to reach maximum volume togeather. I confirmed this feeding max line signal to subwoofer and measured with spl meter. Same volume in both setups. So the balance should be reached 11 o'clock position and for some crazy bass more.

The driver seems uber stiff to me. It needs lots of power to start pounding good. I think the Hypex is not enough for this job. PA-driver -> PA-amp.

The tone of bass might be tweaked by taking of stuffing. The bass seems to be disappearing in my room. I wonder could anti-mode help.

I'll make a cable with R1=10kohm R2=10kohm ratio will be 2:1. I'll report back here if I get this right. :)

With new cables gain ends up 11 o'clock position to play at balance. Ratio is actually 1:1!! Sub input takes some volts but I believe at full power it will overdrive/damage. Strangely the balance is what I wanted so this is some sort of progress.:note:

Eminence Lab 15 and Hypex DS8.0 is ok combination now that i found out how to tweak out more oomph.

The acoustic problems in the room were so annoying so I bought Anti-Mode 8033 S-II.
It took automatically six freq sweeps...it lasted for ages.
The sound is bit quiet now. I think those peaks are now flattened and I can hear some new sounds which were hidden under.

The input signal to antimode clipped with 1:1 cables so I'll try 1:10 cables or I'll make new cables with adjustable ratio.

Lab 15 + alternative enclosures

Now that I've have my sealed sub working I've got interested in TH and TQWP enclosures. How an upgrade to these enclosures might work. Basically I need 100 dB@1W and max spl 125 dB. Is it even possible with Lab 15? Enclosure could be 60x60x60cm cube or tall 50x50x120cm for example. What I measured from sealed Lab 15 I've got some corner room gain. So hopefully freq will extend low as 20 Hz in room.
