Default some quick box help please ? ($$ paypal available)

unless someone here knows this driver to be total garbage, id like to try it as a 5 string bass guitar speaker.the 5th string on the bass is 31 hz and the fundamental is 26hz.

whats the smallest box i can put this driver into for best results? best results being clean dry articulate low bass, the less slop and boom the better.

i dont need it to get 'really loud' (just loud enough to use with a real drummer) but i do want it to be 'really clean' (as humanly/phisically possible between 60 and 28 hz) id like the drummer to feel 30 hz hard.

amp power and eq is undecided yet but anything up to 1000 watts is likely

my *guess* is about 3 cubes sealed with lots of eq down low?

but maybe 3.5 with a port/vent will do more of what i want?

i know nothing of box calculators but am happy to paypal someone some $$ if they do.

At 3ft^3 and vented/tuned to 30hz you'd be Xmax limited to about 110 watts with that driver, but it is a pretty efficient driver so that 110 watts would go a long ways..

I'll edit in some other ideas and sims in a min...

Here's a comparison between the MCM driver you have selected and the Dayton 15" and 18" pro drivers, all given an equal 3ft^3 box spaced, tuned to 30hz. Port size varies to accommodate expected air velocity...

First sim is Xmax/Thermal limitations on power handling.

Second sim is estimated SPL @1M based on results from first sim.

Third sim shows the difference in port dimensions necessary to accommodate the maximum gain derived from sim #1 without significant or audible port noise within the specified application.

Here's with some additional considerations in place, the expected SPL from 2 more drivers. The Eminence Kappa 15LFA and RCF L15P200AK.

Various drivers links:

Eminence Kappa-15LFA 15" Low Frequency Driver 8 Ohm 290-460
RCF L15P200AK 15" Woofer Speaker 294-868
Dayton Audio PA380-8 15" Pro Woofer 295-034
Dayton Audio PA460-8 18" Pro Woofer 295-036

All considered, for $80, the Dayton woofer looks like the best deal. The box size with port can stay compact, and the performance exceeds that of the more expensive MCM driver.

The more expensive RCF driver, can do a lot of work within a 3ft^3 box, but keep in mind that the port size and volume required to make it work well are pretty enormous. (the port size would add an additional 3ft^3)

Hi,
Agree that the Dayton driver would be a better option.. Here is simulation of what's possible when using the MCM driver:

"id like the drummer to feel 30 hz hard."

You'll need more driver for that.

In a small box the RSS390HO-4 is hard to beat.

If you could stand 22.5 x 22.5 x 26.5 finished size, this 2x12” will flutter your pant legs more with 800 watt input, and does not run out of Xmax at that level.

I designed and built four of these after being tired by the distortion generated by the low B on my previous cabinets.
Didn't use any software to design them, a guy did that for me later, the software in this case confirmed real world measured performance.

Powered by Crest CA-9 (about 1K per dual 12 cabinet) they put out more level at 40 Hz than eight Meyers 650P dual 18" cabinets.
