those good with hornresp - can this enclosure be kludged?

will hornresp do this Karlson-variant as a tapped horn? lets say the mouth is rectangular around around 1.3*Sd and a 12" speaker is used

Fred,

That looks more like a long tapered port (pseudo "scoop") than a tapped horn, tapped horns don't have a speaker chamber as this design does.

It could be modeled in Hornresp, but the exit shape can't be, so the model would be of little use, especially without specifying driver parameters.

do you think the result would be ballpark say from bottom, to ~200Hz? hornresp did a great job on a simple one-fold tapered transflex vs prediction but I don't know how to enter GB's enclosure even workable into hornresp - especially as the driver is up a bit in the rear from the start of the path

lets say try a Kappa12A

Kappa 12A
fs = 45, Re=5.41, Le=0.77mH, Qms=7.76, Qes=0.28, Vas=112.1, Cms=0.3mm/N
BL=15.2, Mms=41 grams, xmax=3.2mm, Sd=519.5

Hi freddi,

I'm not sure about this, but:

You could model this as a tapped horn in Hornresp (which as Art has already pointed out would be a by and large useless model), and use the Hornresp-Export-AkAbak Script function to give you a starting point in Akabak. Then you can add all the missing duct sections by editing the script. You could probably also break up the Karlson slot section into individual vented duct sections. But I'm no AkAbak expert.

Good luck.

Regards,

The pictures of the horns in the patent application show a relatively small acoustic low pass filter chamber coupling between speaker and horn.

The “Karlsonator” has what amounts to a braced interior (parts 2&3) and a port exit formed by part 1.
The port extends through the Karlson coupler.

Although the tapped horn patent application is broad, the “Karlsonator” looks a lot more like a bass reflex with a strange duct shape than a tapped horn.

At any rate, it would be easier to measure the cabinet than model ;).

There's more to it than that. What do you have if you stop at the port before the front chamber? A TL or tapered pipe with the driver at some distance from either end, not just bracing. Then that combination goes through a chamber, then through the Karlson coupler.
