Here's a design on a JL audio 12w6. I have it tuned at 32 hz and ports 9.375 x 27 long. I need opinions on this. Please leave a feed back

Although the ports make great handles, the box will be very heavy.

But overall it's a good design, right? Gonna be used in SPL competitions.

a little brace between the back of the box and the first pad of the port.
you dont want your port to flex. maybe a broomstik between the sides for pannelflex sideways.

32Hz is too high to tune for SPL, it takes 4x the power to hit 100dB @ 32Hz then it would at 64Hz-so tuning higher will yield higher SPL score off the same sub/amp.
I'd remove the section of vent from the back inside of the box, increasing box volume and shortening the port to raise the tuning and then have a "music port" which I could screw to the face of the box at the bottom to allow the enclosure to be tuned for music when not competing. Have you actually bought these subs? |

No, it's an idea for a friend. He's buying two of subs when he gets payed and I just want to make his box a good SQ box...but at the same time a SPL box. He owns a van....so any type of sub sounds beasty.
I just thought that at 32hz...it'd be good. -To Baron, I got 4 of the 10 in Audiobahn in my trunk. lol. I shattered my window when I turnt the gain up to 2.0 volts =((((

SQ and SPL are two different ends of the audio spectrum, it's like saying I want a lightweight sports car that can also pull a plough over my 1000acre farm.
For music tune a little highter-normally around 36Hz is recommended. If he is going to compete the he will need a different box. RE the audiobahn-lol! |
