Hi,

TBH the DIY options in the UK are quite depressing, you simply can't get stuff
at reasonable prices for high quality stuff, you end paying more than buying.

Doubly so if you carefully buy used.

With a square room I strongly recommend a sub with an adjustable notch filter
for the doubled up main room modes frequencies, should make a big difference.

Ideally you want probably a 87Hz filter, and for really low also a 43Hz filter.
Make no mistake, EQ for difficult rooms is the key to sound quality.

Without EQ a sub set up in your room will do 40Hz, and die below that,
or go low low but have a huge peak at 43Hz, "one note bass".

Room is not that big and probably a good 12" will be more than adequate.

rgds, sreten.
