I have inherited a sub. It is a Harman Kardon TS5. I have searched these and other Audio forums and I have seen these threads which generally they all say "My horrible cheap **** is broke, fix it for me!!!"
But needless to say I am going to continue typing. As soon as I plugged it in the protection relay would trip over and over again. My parents claimed they had no issues with it previously. Thanks MA! I am pretty handy with a iron and I have fixed some burned out electronics before such as HK AVR 125 and an old Zenith tv. But I am coming to huddle. These dang parts are expensive. So I don't want to fix this POS if it is not worth it (especially if I end up ordering and fixing parts that ain't broke). Well so I took it apart. And it looks like, a couple NPN's PNP's (the PCB around these parts are brown and they warm up immediately when the relay constantly flips). For cost HK part Description Price 192201d882y KSD882Y NPN TRANS 4.53 192202b772y KSB772Y PNP TRANS 5.33 192012b649a 2SB649A PNP TRANS ? I did a google search on the board 104SUB13500 that this things are on. Came up with this: http://www.mpdpartsdirect.com/p-4173...r-adapter.aspx which says 50$ for the board. I am still waiting on word whether this is what it says it is. So I thank you for reading this far and I want opinions. I have the money to buy a new one, that is not why I do this stuff. I enjoy the process of fixing electronics. But if you were in my shoes what would you do? I am considering going on parts express and getting a nice dayton sub kit but it would be nice to be able to reuse some of these parts. I am pretty sure most of the parts are in good working condition (i know its not a good idea). Questions or comments are welcome. |
