hi
not knowing much about sub theory nor anything else for that matter. i recently completed a 3 way hybrid OB with 100ltr bass cabs 10"woofer (crossed at 300hz).well pleased with results ,especially bass . but i wonder how purpose built subs generate so much bass from small enclosure? |

low VAS driver, high powerhandling and Xmax, low fs, an undersized cabinet with an utterly ugly EQ rising as hell.
what you get: unpredictable at sometimes, but surely does the punch well. group delay and phase are not even worh to look at. Mostly ported boxes, design goal is hih power handling regardles of resoponse. Then response gets corrected via electronics. That is one way to make it small and loud. A nother approach is isobaric setup, back to back style, in a 4th or 6th order box. Narrow band, every bass regardless of music will hit quite the same tone/note, in exchange its small, and loud. Group delay and heat buildup are still issues, needs -preferably active- crossover to make sure no out of band signal gets to it. |
