Hi chriss661,

Please, note that the above vented example (Post #15) is just that, an example. I thought that fabpab may benefit from learning Hornresp. It might help to take a look at the sealed box performance in Hornresp (just zero out Ap and Lpt) to see how realistic it is to eq this poor driver to 40Hz in a sealed enclosure.

Regards,

practical suggestion

Pete,

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade but here’s a practical suggestion because I’ve tried to make speaker boxes from cool looking speakers that I had lying around many a time. Sadly to say, none of them ever sounded right and they ended up in the wheelie bin or stuffed away somewhere .

There are some great places to buy drivers, crossovers and proven design speaker (only) kits: Check out:

http://www.madisound.com/ (Highly recommended!)

http://www.mcmelectronics.com/ (No kits, lots of drivers)

Regards,

For nearfield use, I can't see there being a huge problem.

There's been more extreme eq used on smaller drivers before now - anyone else remember the thread where someone had LT'd a CHR70 per side to 20Hz? He said cone excursion was a little worrying but it sounded fine.

I certainly wouldn't rule sealed + eq out.

I got a Visaton AL130 8 in sealed test box at the moment. The box is WAY too big at around 13litres so Qtb is less than 0.7. I also have a Behringer GEQ 'ultra graph pro' 31 band graphic, and I can run those fairly damned loud normally, with enough power. I have a cambridge audio A1 amp so i run out of power with EQ, BUT i can get loudly enough with a good bit of EQ on the lowest most bands.maybe running 8dB max @ 32Hz tapering off a little in the 20 and 25hz bands.

A nice less than 6dB/octave at a corner of about 70-80hz would probably be the way i try next.
