Hey guys,
I see a lot of designs for big PA subs that can handle lots of power. I'm looking for something that can produce 105db at 1 watt with an F3 at 35Hz, however, I don't need the massive power handling. My home made amp produces 25 watts of pre clipping power. No one note wonder. It should be reasonably flat to 80Hz. F3 range 33 - 38Hz, but definitely no higher. 35Hz ideal. I guess it would be a TH or some other efficient topology. Any suggestions? |

Buy a new bigger amp it will be cheaper than all the extra wood needed to get that efficiency. Looking at horn resp your going to need many (approx 8) >112L boxes to achieve that... certainly possible but very space inefficient.

I have a 6' (183cm) tall up and back TH with 12" driver doing about 98db. I know getting those few db extra can be a lot of effort. If it is more realistic to get to 100-102db, that is fine. Size is whatever it needs to be.

Hi johnr66,
What placement, corner, against wall, or just use 2pi? 1W @ what driver impedance, 4 Ohm, 8 Ohm, or just use Eg=2.83V (in Hornresp)? Regards,

DIY 4 x 18" subwoofer - The Paper Horn by Inlow Sound
4x18" in a large bass reflex looks to be capable.

know U don't want to "compromise" but more amp power and a tapped horn sub of manageable size would be one tradeoff. Here's inroom response of a front horn called "The Monolith" built about 20 years ago for me by D.r Bruce Edgar when loaded with a defunct Dayton 295-070 (not real far off from a 2226) it had a nominal cutoff of 40.
