I have some older JBL woofers: E145 and the 2225H. All are 8 ohms.
Don't like the cabs they are in and want to make something stackable like the Cubo, SS, 3015lf, Tham 15, C/E/X PA, etc. but don't need anything like 140 db SPL. Would like the LF response to go as low as possible, but certainly tuned to around 30 hz or so. Both have low Qts and decent Xmax. What is the "best" for this HT/Hi-Fi? Don't want anything 6 or 7 feet tall. 5 feet might be ok. Thanks for any input! http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Thi...Parameters.pdf |

My 2 cent:
If you truly want 30 Hz, which I think is a good choice, at the moment only Cubo Sub will do from the Cubo series and will work with both drivers. AFAIK, the Single Sheet and other Cubo's are strictly 40 Hz plus. The THAM 15 is an interesting choice, it's more a 35 Hz and up bin IIRC but is small and again IIRC will do 30 Hz and up in 1,0 pi. There's some nice designs in the C/E/X PA thread, though I haven't had much deeper look into those models., other then the basic design from Xoc1, which simulates very close to Cubo Sub. The THAM15 and Xoc1's both seem to favour low Qts, low Vas drivers. Best regards Johan

i also thought about modifying the Shadow SD12 cabinet for these drivers, but didn't know quite how to go about this. however, i found the following link that might give just what is needed. i can use the outer cabinet dimensions, omit the labyrinthine turns behind the woofer, and size the port in the same manner as in the Shadow but for these drivers, tuned to 30 hz and dump it into the scoop. should be interesting. and i do like the Cubo sub. i want to be able to stack or group enclosures that give good solid bass response and don't weigh over 100#. http://horn.hebfree.org/jbl/pdf/rearhorn.pdf here's another interesting one. instead of using the KEF driver, use a single JBL and put one bend in the enclosure making it about 48" tall. not pushpush and nothing complex here. similar to a BiB but not so tall and should give solid bass down to about 30hz. http://homepage.mac.com/planet10/TLS...map-041107.pdf |
