2206 and GTI-1200 difference

I read that the JBL old GTI-1200 and 2206 should have similar motors, but different moving parts. People also stated that I should be able to recone a GTI to a 2206. However with recone in hand I realize that the coil to spider measurement is ~7mm (~1/4 inch) different. The 2206 coil will give me 0mm xmax one way and 10mm the other in the GTI-magnet-gap. To me this seems very strange, why would they bother with such a change?
Havent people noticed this, or am I doing something very wrong?

Do your GTI have a thick aluminium ring betwin the top plate of the magnet system and the frame?

I know the 2226 has this ring, and if the 2206 has it and the GTI 1200 doesent, this can be the reason why the 2206 kit doesent fit well in the frame. the solution would then be to get such a ring made and install it betwin the frame and the motor.

Yep, it has that ring. Both Gti-1200 and 2206 has that ring.
I have talked to the company I bought the recone kit from and they gave me measurements so that I could compare with my old cone assembly. They were very helpful and it seems like someone made a mistake when producing the kit. The issue has been solved.
