Default tapped horn design, how to?

I am interested in high efficiency sub to use for music, not HT setup. (does not have to go to <40Hz...). Have a relatively large room and mainly listen to jazz and occasional classical music.

I will be driving my main speakers (likely high efficiency fullrange) with t-amp which is modified. Likely main speakers will need assistance below <100-150Hz.

Is there a basic guide somewhere so I can buy a reasonable subwoofer (8" or less) design, and ?separate amp, crossover etc?

thanks,

gychang

Hi There: Your title addresses tapped horns, As of now the design has an international patten application, only Dantley Spound Labs can sell the TH, they sell a home version called SPUD. You can contact them on the net. Otherwise, there are numerous threads on this sit about designing and constructing TH's for home use, including a DIY version of the SPUD (uses 2 8-inch drivers, but all th's are somewhat larger than typical comercial home subs). Try the web site for Parts Express for components for all kinds of subs. PE has some designs available on their site. ....regards, Michael

Hi,

This is a thread for a home-build TH-SPUD:

This is a thread for a nice LAB12 tapped horn:

This is a thread for a very nice small tapped horn that might well fit what you are looking for:

This is lilmike's (littlemike's) tutorial on designing tapped horns w/ Hornresp:

Seconded. I've got 2 and they're brill.
The only problem is you can't make sure the speaker excursion isn't getting too silly... But try as I might (with 120w/ch), I haven't managed to get any bad sounds out.
