Default looking for a 18" SW

budget for the driver is 400$, I am not very familiar with the SW business and kinda confused after the many projects I've seen. open to build almost everything from front loaded to taped horn to BR ... whatever. Just have no idea at all where I should start looking at.

humpfs ... thanks

Well, you have an Italian flag, but claim to be located in the Midwest, so for the latter, Google returned these: 18" subwoofer - Google Search

Well GM ... I am italian but I do live in the midwest, somehow it happened and I still can't figure out how things went and brought me here.

Heerr, actually I was looking mainly to a project people are happy with so I can get myself some wood and glue and start assembling it.

This is more double your budget, but someone mentioned this to me the other day and I haven't been able to close the tab in my browser yet.

TC Sounds LMS Ultra 5400 18" DVC Subwoofer

I haven't built anything with an 18" in it however, so I can't recommend anything from personal experience, but parts express has several drivers that fit your budget and look to have respectable specifications on paper.

Sorry, don't keep up with all the various builds, but this forum appears to build quite a few 18" subs, though probably well beyond your budget: DIY Speakers and Subs - AVS Forum

Again though, doing a Google search on each driver within your budget is probably your best bet as they aren't all that popular around here.

How about an Electro-voice? EVX180B I think you can get one for around $360-400.00

Why not dual 12s?

With dual drivers you can run PPSL and get about the same output that you would get from a medium priced 18.

22.9mm $179 12"

You're welcome!

Yeah, I get ~224.34 L net/21.6 Hz Fb, but a very large, long ~238.33 cm^2 x ~55.82 cm vent to get a low vent mach and shrinking the cab will just make it smaller, longer, but at a glance, around 150 L net/21.6 Fb looks doable in a sim.

Maybe better overall building two ~150 L net cabs with some stuffing to 'tighten' them up and tuned to 17-18 Hz to get more room smoothing options and if you can get them into ~diagonal corners, all the better.
