Default Smaller version of M&K MX2000

The old M&K MX2000 used two 12inch drivers, one on each side) and wired out of phase. I would like to change this to 8 inch drivers and a smaller cabinet. I am interested in transient response, not earth shattering bass. What size box and what drivers would you suggest? Cost is not really an issue, but quality is. This is to provide some bottom to a pair of Paradigm Signature S1s. Thanks for any help. I would also like to use a ready made box as I have minimal woodworking skills and tools.

The M&K products used large ammounts of EQ/bass boost to get extended response from a relatively smallish sealed enclosure, to DIY one on the cheap and simple the easiest route would be to use the 500 watt O Audio BASH plate amp and a couple 8 ohm drivers like the Dayton Audio RSS315HFA-8 .

Since you are looking for transient response you may want to consider a ripole style enclosure though...

As I stated, my woodworking skills and tools are minimal. I would like to use a PE 1cubic foot enclosure and mount drivers on opposing sides. I am sure I can find a plate amp with built in low pass. What drivers would you suggest for such a box. I would like reponse to 40hz with great quickness. Thanks

Virtually all plateamps have a low pass, that's not the reason I recommended the O Audio BASH. It has a special boost circuit for tayloring sealed systems. I also think 1'³ is way to small but what do I know. Anyway you have my recommendation, good luck to you.

recipe:
one O Audio 500w
two HiVi SP10 subwoofers (same driver that is used in the sunfire TS-EQ10)
one 1ft^3 parts express box
wire in a push pull config, boost and EQ till your hearts content.

Make that one SPA1000 amp or what i would use, the SA1000 to keep those little beasts from mule kicking the amp's internals.

I used to sell the Sunfire sub and was never impressed on music. I primarily listen to classical and found it mushy. I am looking for transient response not bass extension. I am not an organ music fan. (you can never have too little organ music) I am not stuck on cabinet size, just that I need to use one that is pre-built. So there you have it-ultimate transient response, box not too big, two woofers wired out of phase, flat to 40hz or so. Gentlemen, I await your suggestions. BTW the amps look very good.

It wasn't the drivers fault it sounded mushy. it was the .2ft^3 box they shoved it in. if you can use a 2ft^3 box the above design stands with no boost with 1db down at 40hz 10db roll off to 20hz. but... I am enjoying this challenge. i'll be back...

A two to three cubic ft box is no problem-would love to have the old Fried "coffin" transmission line with two 10s, but at almost six feet long, a bit large. But the best and tightest bass I have ever heard. Regards and thanks

Let me explain in more detail. The S1s drop like a rock at 60hz. I need to go down to 40hz or a bit lower with quickness that will the match the almost electrostatic like speed of the Paradigms. They use a 6 inch woofer which is very fast. Maybe I am just asking for a fast woofer not a sub, but it will be very bandwith limited and that is why I posted here. Thanks again.
