Default Visaton WHC 30 X

Hi all,

A while ago I bought this Visaton driver.

http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/da...e_en_fr_nl.pdf

I used Boxsim to simulate an enclosure.
Closed, 60l.

What do you think?
I want to use it as a subwoofer for watching movies.
The amp I'm using is a DIY MOSFET IRFP9240/240, about 50W.
Maybe an iNuke NU1000 from Behringer later on.
I want to use a low-pass filter (active) and cut-off at 150Hz.

Do you think this is going to beat a Yamaha YST-012

Anything that I could improve?

The sub you designed would be good for music. That driver wants to be in a larger box though, (driver Vas 146L) I'd use 100L minimum. Without knowing Xmax it's hard to model a ported box for it.

The yamaha is what I call a burp cannon. It will make a good bit of noise between 40 and 80hz but the transient response is crap. Not good for music at all, but if all you want is rumble for movies it does make noise...

Using a bassrelfex won't give good results. Qts is above 0,6.

See below for the T/S parameters from Boxsim.

Xmax is 9mm, so 18mm total.

60l looks like a good compromise to me. I've aslo simulated a 100l enclosure, no big difference.

100l

The bandpass appears to have far less output than the 60L sealed box.
It only has 2 dB more output at 40 Hz, then drops at a much steeper rate.
Why would you want to throw away more than 5 dB of overall sensitivity and get a 5 dB peak at 100 Hz?

85 dB at one watt works out to about 105 dB at 50 watts.
At 30 Hz, the output level is only 91 dB at 50 watts.
It takes almost 20 dB more level at 30 Hz for an average person to perceive the level to be the same as at 100 Hz.

Movies often have considerable content below 30 Hz.
The bandpass box will unload rapidly below Fb, the speaker probably will exceed Xmax even with 50 watts unless you HP at about 35 Hz, which will then loose any "feel" of T-Rex thumps and battleships being crushed, and the low B on a bass guitar.

Some people already adviced me to use a transmission line instead of a bandpass

Transmission line would be able to deliver that 30Hz, but I have no idea what SPL it has.

Default Someone check this

Ok, I've calculated the port with WinISD, enclosure is 60l and needs to be tuned at 55Hz, it's 9,5cm diameter and only 5cm long. Is this correct? Looks short
