Default GSA (Gary Stewart Audio)

went to district 36 last night in NYC, the club has one of Gary Stewarts newest audio installs. WOW. sick! i tried to take some pics but it was too dark, but i was amazed by the sound!

I think it tops the Funktion One sound system that cielo (also in NYC) has. (very very very clear and crisp, great overall sound not just pounding bass)

The mouths of the horns were about 10 feet wide and 3-4 feet tall. four of them all pointed inwards towards the center of the dance floor. when they turned it up and i stood in the middle of the floor the bass was actually hurting my chest! Hanging tweeters and tall stacks of midrange speakers, and radiator looking things on top of the stacks (what are they?)
here is a pic from gsany.com the stacks in D36 were very similar to these...

Looks like muffin fans on the tweeter modules. Powered speakers or just rack mount amps in a box?

Looks like someone has revived the acoustic lens, somewhat popular from their introduction in 1954 through the 1970's and 1980's.

Odd to use a wide dispersion hi mid device with the narrow dispersion down firing "bullet" tweeters, but disco sound system designers like to use goofy things that sound "different".

I agree with troystg that the side units look like muffin fans, either to keep amps cool or perhaps just to keep the HF drivers cool.

that must have been an older install, the flying tweeter boxes at District 36 were much smaller than that, basically just big enough to house 4 bullet tweeters

Nobody said it can't 'sound great' (btw 'sounds great' is a personal perception), it's just that technology has moved on.
