Default mini sub for 2.1 system

hi all. i have a pair of event tr-5 monitor speakers, iam wanting to add a mini sub.something that wont over power the monitors.
i dont want the sub to be boomy or loud.
:
event tr-5 specs:
• LF Driver: Magnetically shielded 5.25 in. mineral-filled polypropylene cone with 1 in. diameter high-temperature voice coil and damped rubber surround
• HF Driver: Magnetically shielded 1 in. diameter ferrofluid-cooled natural soft dome neodymium
• Frequency Response: 53Hz - 19kHz
• ±3dB
• ref. 500Hzz
• Power Output (SPL): >105dB
• Crossover: 2.6kHz

• Dimensions (W x H x D): 7 x 10 x 9 in.

i have looked at many design ideas and iam still confused which way to go.
hoping i could use a 6.5 inch driver or smaller.?
ideally would be as small as possible, driver and box. will comprimise to get 40hz.

sealed box, vented box, tapped horn ?

is for a small room, 2.1 system.

using bassbox pro the best one seemed to be a basic vented box.not exact figures below is from memory :}

0.6 cubic feet
17x10x8
2 ports: 1.5 inch x 8 inch

this gave a f3 of 38hz.

tapped horns or t-line ideas inspire me more but iam lost for whats best option.?

thanks.

this is the type of subs iam looking at.

is it possible to self build a sub to that quality ,including the filters/crossovers for a reasonable price ?

is it possible to make a unique design that would still work as well ?

what would be my best solution ?.

Something like this would be a good fit, with the recommended enclosure: https://www.madisound.com/store/prod...oducts_id=8234

Depends on what's available in your area. You can likely find a suitable plate amp on e-bay.

anyone know uk based stores/sites ?

prices seem crazy in comparison to your link.

also..

would it be possible to use this amp and build a passive sub with crossovers/filters?:

50 watts per channel into 8ohms from 40Hz-20kHz at no more than 0.08%THD

thanks.

not to diss anyone , but i had good experiences with the peerless sub , it had more xmax then a 6.5" ( a 3"/4" , can't remember ) .
Sadly , i borrowed it only . ( obviously , i don't care about space usage . )
I'm still back to my circa 90's JBL GT82
Damn , it's 4.5 db much better then my brandless 6.5" woofer driver .

Not as much as you might hope.

I think a small vented (or PR) design would be the way to go, using a 6.5" or 8" woofer. There's lots of designs out there, and the TB woofer is available here in the UK (europeaudio.com)
